What are Bach Flower Remedies?
Dr. Edward Bach (1886-1936), the discoverer of Bach Flower remedies, believed, as many doctors do today, that all physical illness is caused by long-term emotional imbalance: “Behind all disease lie our fears, our anxieties, our greed, our likes, and dislikes.” (source: The Essential Writing of Dr. Edward Bach).
Bach Flower Remedies are made from wildflowers, wild shrubs, bushes, and trees found in the English countryside. Each of the 38 remedies is associated with a basic human emotion like anxiety or impatience. The remedies do not treat physical illness directly but help to restore emotional balance by casting out negative emotions such as excessive fear, worry, or indecision. As a result, the body’s natural defenses can work more easily, and the body is able to deal better with stress or disease.
The best-known Bach Flower Remedy is ‘Rescue Remedy’, a mixture of five essences used to deal with the immediate effects of sudden crises and emergencies.
